Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American average reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen various tongues.
